Exploring Advances Treatment in Thyroid Eye Disease: A Remarkable RSPP Grand Rounds with Mayo Clinic Endocrinology Specialist

At the start of 2024, Rumah Sakit Pusat Pertamina (RSPP) embarked on a transformative journey by hosting a landmark Grand Rounds event in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, marking a significant milestone in advancing healthcare standards in Indonesia.

Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) represents a substantial concern for patients with Graves` disease, with a high worldwide prevalence. In the pursuit of better care, the event shed light on the latest advancements in TED management, particularly the challenges posed by limited access to advanced treatments such as Teprotumumab, a new FDA-approved medication showing promising results in improving eye symptoms.

Mayo Clinic’s Dr. Kharisa Rachmasari`s expertise and insights during the event provided a crucial platform for understanding the global landscape of TED treatment. Her poignant message resonated deeply: "I was impressed by the IHC RSPP doctors’ engagement during grand rounds; they were curious and asked excellent questions which led to great discussion. I hope that knowledge and skills exchange will continue to help improve healthcare in Indonesia."

This sentiment underscores the critical need to explore and understand available treatment options, especially in regions where advanced therapies may be limited. In Indonesia, where access to cutting-edge treatments like Teprotumumab may not be as widespread as in leading medical institutions like Mayo Clinic, collaborative efforts with healthcare providers become vital. The event`s hybrid format connected 105 online attendees, amplifying the impact of knowledge-sharing and fostering a spirit of collaboration.

As RSPP continues its journey to elevate healthcare standards, this collaboration with Mayo Clinic through the Mayo Clinic Care Network has illuminated a path forward, offering hope and inspiration for the future of healthcare in Indonesia. Together, we are committed to exploring and embracing the best possible care options for patients with TED, propelling us towards a new era of healthcare innovation and excellence.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Myrna Martinus, SpPD, KEMD, Dr. Veda Charissa, SpM, and our astute moderator, Dr. Randy Nusrianto, SpPD, for their active participation and valuable contributions to the discussion.

A warm thank you to the Mayo Clinic team—Susan Xu, Roy Lek, and Safalina Ganis —for their unwavering support, contributing to the success of this event.
